IDEA is the North American representative member of ETIM International. As a member, IDEA will support our customers who require ETIM - the European equivalent to the UNSPSC®- based Electrical Attribute Schema - and will create an adaptation of the ETIM model geared toward the needs of the North American market.
To help achieve this goal, we have formed the ETIM Committee - a team of industry subject matter experts who will volunteer their time to help bridge the "language" gap between European and North American product data standards - and we're looking for members!
Currently, confirmed members of the ETIM Committee include:
- Acuity Brands Lighting
- Eaton Corporation
- Encore Wire
- Halco Lighting Technologies
- Hubbell, Inc.
- Klein Tools
- Lutron Electronics Co, Inc.
- Panduit Corporation
- Philips Luminaires
- Rockwell Automation
- Schneider Electric
- Siemens Automation
- Thomas & Betts, Member of the ABB Group
- Wheatland Tube
Membership is still open for the ETIM Committee. For general inquiries or information about joining the ETIM Committee, contact ETIM North America.
Responsiblities of the ETIM Committee
The first step in IDEA’s work with ETIM International is to translate the existing ETIM model into “North American English”, just as individual country-based ETIM Federations in Europe translate the model into their local languages. This will enable the two standards to be accurately compared to one another.
The translated models will then be reviewed for gaps in the features and descriptions. Such gaps (e.g., translation, metric/imperial measurements, regulatory requirements, etc.) will be filled and added to either the ETIM standard or the IDEA standard.
Finally, IDEA will work to create a map between the two models (ETIM and CMD) to help manufacturers provide ETIM data to their customers who want it, whether those customers are in Europe or North America. Throughout this entire process, IDEA will continue to own and support the CMD for domestic customers while simultaneously supporting the European model for global customers.
