Industry Advisory Council

IDEA’s Industry Advisory Council is comprised of thought leaders in the electrical wholesale distribution space from leading distributor and manufacturer companies. The purpose of this council is to develop an on-going forum to stimulate thought leadership for creative, innovative and visionary thinking. The council extends IDEA’s domain expertise and offers a forum for stakeholders to communicate their opinions, share their expertise and collaborate on issues of mutual concern.

Carden started at Mayer Electric in 1985 as a computer operator and continued to work as a developer as well as the Application Development Manager. He was a member of the team that led Mayer Electric’s ERP system upgrade in 1999 and has led three additional ERP upgrades since then. As VP and CIO, Carden is a member of the senior leadership team at Mayer Electric which develops and executes the strategic plans of the company. He serves on the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Business Information Systems Advisory Council, IDEA Industry Standards Committee, and the NAED Strategic Technology Task Force. Carden graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems.

Greg Chun

In his IT position, Chun oversees all aspects of technology for the company including ERP systems, IP Telephony systems, network infrastructure, EDI, and web commerce solutions. Chun has been with McNaughton-McKay for 27 years in various roles in engineering, sales, sales management, general management, and an international assignment. Chun also serves on the NAED Strategic Technology Task Force. He graduated from General Motors Institute with a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, and has an Executive Master of Business Administration from the Michigan State University Eli Broad Graduate School of Management. Currently, he resides in Lake Orion, MI with his wife and their two dogs, Peka and Quin, and they have three grown children.

Hale is responsible for the company’s software development, hardware, networking, B2B and B2C eCommerce, business intelligence, and documentation of processes and systems. Driven by his innovative ideas, Elliott Electric Supply developed one of the first electrical websites with dynamic content and converted its network to use Internet VPN's, reducing connectivity costs and improving user experience. The company also introduced barcode hardware/software for warehouse automation, designed EDI/Web-service systems to reduce channel costs, developed new software/processes to eliminate mistakes in the SPA process, and released mobile apps for both customers and employees. He also helped to establish new server architecture to improve the company’s use of clusters and virtualized environments. Hale has worked at Elliott for 30 years, starting out part-time in the warehouse while attending Stephen F. Austin University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He is a member of the Computer Science Advisory Board for Stephen F. Austin University and Louisiana Tech University. Hale also serves on the NAED Strategic Technology Committee.

With 33 locations in the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, and Arizona, North Coast is a growing electrical distributor. Johnson manages all information technology operations to facilitate that growth. Prior to joining North Coast Electric Company in 1996, he had experience as a developer and database design consultant, Vice President of Administration at the Seattle Area Chapter of the Society for Information Management, and IT Manager at Golder Associates. Johnson has extensive knowledge of business analytics, IT management, IT/Business alignment, and vendor management. He has worked in the computer technology field for over 30 years. Johnson is also an author, the winner of the Society for Information Management’s 2008 Leader of the Year award, and a member of the NAED Strategic Technology Task Force.

Seger started his career with the company's utility marketing team in 1999. He has also served as an inventory planning specialist, utility sales and marketing coordinator, and purchasing manager. In May 2009, he was named Director of Inventory and Operations, and in April 2010 he was appointed Vice President of Operations and Inventory and to the Executive Council. Through his leadership, Seger has played a key role in acquisition integration, implementation of strategic customers, and development of supply chain operations to support growth and increase profitability. Seger is a member of The Association for Operations Management (APICS), the Institute for Supply Management, the Minnesota State University Moorhead’s (MSUM) Operations Management Advisory Board, and the NAED LEAD committee. He graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead with a Bachelor of Science in Operations Management and earned his Master of Business Administration at North Dakota State University.

Barrios has over 35 years of experience in the electrical industry and serves as an eBusiness lead, an industry advocate, and Senior Director of eBusiness and Marketing at Hubbell Incorporated. At Hubbell, he is the Marketing & Sales Council Chair, conducts Customer Advisory Boards and market research, and manages the corporation’s public website and customer portal. He also oversees the marketing communication strategies, corporate branding, and electronic media campaigns. Barrios is active in industry affairs with NAED, NEMA, and IDEA initiatives. He was honored in 2010 as NAED’s recipient of the Associate Service Award for contributions made to the industry by serving on the IDEA Board of Directors and as Chair of the IDEA Industry Standards Committee. In 2012, Barrios received the IDEA Richard Buzun Award for eCommerce excellence. His career spans a variety of disciplines including new product design and development, channel marketing, sales training, sales force automation, customer support and technical services and relies on this experience to harmonize technology solutions with business needs.

In his position as Director, Richards holds several responsibilities and oversees many aspects of eCommerce activities and transactions within the supply chain. Richards has also taken part in designing and implementing the company’s B2B website, digitizing various paper transactions, populating IDEA’s IDW, and proposing the use of new technologies such as OCR and an order configurator that have streamlined business processes. In 2008, his role in leadership and innovation was recognized by IDEA and Leviton won the Richard Buzun Award for outstanding eCommerce in the electrical industry. He has been a speaker as well as a panel member at IDEA and NAED forums to address the many eCommerce challenges faced by distribution and manufacturing today. Richards also has over 15 years of experience in eCommerce including EDI, data synchronization and digitization, and website functionality, as well as project and inventory management and strategic planning. He has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Saint John’s University.
