The 43 critical fields contain transactional, marketing, and packaging information that was identified as the most crucial information for distributors to conduct business and sell the manufacturers’ products. However, the IDW actually has more than 350 data fields available for manufacturers to populate. This series will highlight the ways in which manufacturers can take advantage of the other data fields to provide more in-depth information, differentiate their brand, and showcase their products as they see fit. Publicly-Available Fields in the IDW

In order to meet distributors' needs for “publicly-available” product data in the IDW for all manufacturers, IDEA collaborated with the Innovation Advisory Council (IAC) consisting of manufacturers and distributors to research and determine the fields that are needed. IDEA Licenses the 98-Series UPC Numbers from GS1 US

Manufacturers can now link their proprietary UPC’s with these non-specific UPC’s through the Industry Data Warehouse (IDW) IDEA recently licensed the UPC prefix blocks, which is commonly known in the wholesale electrical industry as the 98-series generic UPC numbers, from GS1 US, the official provider of company prefixes and bar code numbers.
