Once an item is compliant, the quality of the data within its critical fields is then measured against the excellence metric, which consists of two quality checks. The first is a programmatic excellence evaluation, in which industry standards and best practices are applied to the data. Once 95% of a manufacturer’s items pass the programmatic checks, a representative random sample of those items is subjected to a quarterly visual quality review conducted by a team of IDEA’s Data Quality Specialists
IDEA has developed several data management tools and provides various means of support for manufacturers who are working toward achieving programmatic excellence. Below is a list of resources available to manufacturers. If you have questions regarding any of the following tools or resources, please contact your Data Management Specialist, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
1. Excellence Module
To help manufacturers in the process of achieving excellence within the Data Certification Program, IDEA offers the IDW Excellence Module. Available to IDW for Manufacturer (IDW-M) subscribers, the IDW Excellence Module is a tool that enables manufacturers to identify which of their items in the IDW are not meeting data quality standards.
From one central location, manufacturers can then drill down into each of their eligible items, gaining more detailed insight that will help prioritize their efforts in the move toward excellence and, ultimately, certification. Manufacturers with an IDW for Manufacturers subscription can access the IDW Excellence Module by using the following steps: Log in to the IDW > Advanced > Information > Data Certification > Excellence.
2. Data Management Specialist Consulting and Support
Our Data Management Specialist (DMS) team is knowledgeable about product data, standards regulations, IDW tools, and the Data Certification Program. They can work with manufacturers to figure out the best plan of action and assist with any troubleshooting questions that may arise as manufacturers load and manage their data in the IDW. Plus, our DMS team has identified some of the more common – and fixable – issues that manufacturers have encountered on the road to full data certification and is available during business hours to assist manufacturers with these issues and their overall accounts.
3. IDW Data Certification Resources
- Programmatic Excellence FAQ Document
This document provides a guideline of how to use components of the IDW related to programmatic excellence.
To access this document, log into the IDW, and navigate to the Documents section.
- Data Certification Program Guidelines Document
The IDW houses a guideline document detailing the criteria that must be followed in order to achieve compliance and excellence for each critical field. This Data Certification Program Guidelines Document also contains the definition of each field.
To access this document, log into the IDW, and navigate to the Data Certification landing page, where you can click on the “Guidelines” button in the upper right-hand corner to download.
- Data Certification Overview document
This is a document providing a relatively simplified overview of the Data Certification Program as a whole, including details about programmatic excellence.
To access this document, log into the IDW, and navigate to the Data Certification landing page, where you can click on the “Overview” button in the upper right-hand corner to download.
- Data Certification Report
This document gives the manufacturer a summary view of their own data within the IDW in a printable report (with bar graphs to measure progress). However, it is only available to manufacturers subscribed at the IDW for Manufacturers subscription level.
To access this document, log into the IDW, and navigate to the Data Certification landing page, where you can click on the “Printer-friendly Report” button to download.
4. IDW Training Videos
If a manufacturer prefers a visual representation and tutorial of how to load and manage their information within the IDW, IDEA offers a complete set of IDW training videos and quick reference guides. Available to IDW subscribers, the training videos also show how to use various features of the IDW.
To access these videos using the main navigation bar in the IDW, go to: Advanced > Information > Documents > “IDW Training Resources”.
The success of our compliance overview and training webinars prompted the creation of a series of programmatic excellence webinars. These live sessions provide an overview of programmatic excellence, a demo of the IDW Excellence Module, and any recent updates within the Data Certification Program. These sessions are open to manufacturers who have already achieved compliance. For more information on an upcoming session, manufacturers should contact their Data Management Specialist.
6. Blog Posts
IDEA’s blog contains numerous articles and resources relating to the Data Certification Program and programmatic excellence. Our blog is updated regularly, so manufacturers and distributors alike can always check out the “Data Certification Program” tag to read the latest news.
Some of the 43 critical fields may be exempt from the compliance and excellence requirements if the item is indicated as Non-stock; or is a Repair/Replacement item; or is a non-price maintained item.
To access the notations of all exempted fields, log into the IDW, and navigate to the Data Certification landing page, where you can click on the “Guidelines” button in the upper right-hand corner to download. This document contains the list of exempted fields.
The “exemption” status allows the manufacturer to leave those fields blank; however, if the field is populated, then all of the excellence rules are applied and must be met for the item to achieve programmatic excellence. NOTE: The exemptions for Non-stock items (stock indicator code N) will be removed in 2017.
