Q: What are the most commonly requested EDI transaction sets?
A: Most times you’ll see, when people are going new into EDI they’re going to try to get the most value for the dollar in their EDI system and address the more labor intensive areas. Most often that’s order entry, invoicing – the whole quote-to-cash process.
So you’re going to see four typical documents that are always implemented; you’re going to have the EDI purchase order, the EDI purchase order acknowledgement, the EDI ASN and the EDI invoice. Because with that – with those four documents in that suite – you’re really going to achieve the most value because you’ve got the order process managed, you have invoicing and you have the shipping and delivery information. So with those four added you’re going to have the most value – and everyone is going to have word processing, so that’s going to be something more common to everybody. If you’re looking at different processes in a company, then you’re looking at different suites of documents. But the most common right now, I would say are purchase order, invoice, ASN and the acknowledgement.
