Fifteen of the most frequently-used product attributes have been normalized as a result of the Innovating for the Future Plan, and additional attributes will be normalized throughout 2014.
This was completed to enable faster, more accurate online searches. For example, if a manufacturer uses the abbreviation “blk” for a color attribute, the IDW will recognize the abbreviation and automatically populate the IDW with the term “Black.” Distributors extracting the normalized version will receive “Black” so they will have a consistent version from all manufacturers and so it can be found by buyers using web searches.
These attributes now have normalized values available in the IDW:
- Color Rendering Index
- Frequency Rating
- Insulation Class
- Number of Holes
- Number of Lamps
- Number of Poles
- Number of Wires
- Operating Cycles
- Stud Size
- Temperature Rating
Distributors can download this new normalized product data by signing up for the Catalog Plus subscription trial that began earlier this week. They have the option to download the manufacturer-provided attributes, IDEA’s normalized attributes, or both.
Manufacturers have the option to download and review the normalized attribute values for their products. They can do this by turning on the “Normalization Filter” in the IDW prior to making a data request. Download instructions on how to access the normalized attributes for your products in the IDW.
Distributors and manufacturers can benefit from this enhancement by downloading the normalized attributes, reviewing them, and using them in their business system. This will help promote products in a consistent way to improve brand recognition and will help products to be found more easily through web searches.
