IDEA Expands the Harmonized Data Model Across Hundreds of New Product Categories

HDM update harmonized electrical product data

IDEA continues to improve the quality, consistency, and usability of product content across the electrical industry through its Harmonized Data Model (HDM) initiative.

95% of Attributed SKUs Standardized by Year-End

IDEA completed 155 new harmonized UNSPSC categories in May, with another 227 categories in development and targeted for completion by early Q4. By year-end, HDM will provide standardized product content coverage for 95% of attributed SKUs in IDEA Connector.

What Changes When Attributes Are Standardized

The value of HDM extends far beyond data standardization. By normalizing physical and performance attributes, attribute values, and units of measure, HDM creates a consistent product data foundation that distributors can use across their digital commerce platforms.

For distributors, this means less effort spent managing inconsistent manufacturer data and a faster, more reliable process for publishing product content online. For manufacturers, it ensures your product information is represented consistently across the channel.

More accurate, consistent product information helps buyers find and purchase products, reduces returns, and supports the industry’s continued digital transformation.
